Window handles

Short names like P3·W2·T2 for every window and tab.

What is a window handle?

A short name for every window AIObox opens: profile, window and tab, written like P3·W2·T2. It also appears as a prefix in the window title so you can tell windows apart at a glance, and it keeps pointing at the same window after AIObox restarts. A handle is never given twice, and Restore windows gives each reopened window the handle it had before Chrome closed.

Where can tools read them?

AIObox keeps the current list in ~/.aki/aiobox/cdp/windows.json. Local tools such as AkiMCP can read it to find the right window without guessing. AkiMCP does this from version 3.0.

Can windows talk to each other?

Pages opened by AIObox get window.akipanel with send and onMessage, so one window can pass a message to another by its handle. An AI in a window can also start a new chat there, and send a message into a Notion chat, never over a draft left in its box. When an AI hands its work to a fresh chat, the new window takes the old one's place and size, the old window closes itself, and a message sent to the old handle reaches the new window. The browser's control port is never exposed to the page.

A ChatGPT window P2·W3 behind a Grok window P4·W1, each with the AIObox panel at its bottom showing its handle, account and usage: 51% of 5 hours and 22% of 7 days for ChatGPT, 3 of 10 tickets left for Grok.

Is there a guide for AI agents?

Yes: aiobox.app/guide/aiobox.md, a plain Markdown file that tells an AI how to act in AIObox windows through AkiMCP. AIObox also writes it to ~/.aki/aiobox/guide.md on your computer when it starts, for local tools to read.
